NO LAWYERS AND NO SLAVERY IN GEORGIA IN THE BEGINNING: SOURCE

NO   LAWYERS   AND   NO   SLAVERY   IN    GEORGIA    IN    THE BEGINNING

For some time now I have heard that in Georgia in the beginning there were no lawyers, and there was no slavery.  I finally found a good source for this.

Georgia:  History Written By Those Who Lived It, ed. by Mills Lane (Savannah,, GA:  Beehive Press, 1995), p. 11

The exact words are:  "There are no lawyers allowed nor attorneys to take money, but every man pleads his own cause.  ...  No slavery is allowed,..."  written by Francis Moore in 1735, from his journal, which is excerpted in A Voyage To Georgia (London, 1744)

Sincerely,

Forrest
